Classroom Procedures in Technology

Technology is a great way to engage students in the content that we have to teach. Schools are now providing gadgets that students can use for activities such as group projects or activities in class. Part of using technology in the classroom is ensuring that they are used in a safe, efficient manner that is related to what is being taught. As I've heard many times, we have to ensure that technology is used as a learning tool, not a distraction.

Having said that, there are a multitude of ways to practice safe efficient technology use, but here is what I will do when handling technology with my future students.

Managing a classroom iPad cart:

- Assigning numbers to students so you know who to talk to in case something happens

- Having two student volunteers to charge the ipads and make sure everything is in order

- Assigning students to help others and make sure everyone is on task

- Each iPad can be personalized (during break or before class starts after receiving it from me) so that the students can explore how to use it, developing further their tech skills and making it more fun.

- Downloading an app where I can see their activity - create a block or some sort of supervision in case a student is off task

- Have them face down during class time until needed

- Creating a certain way they are to store it and take care of it - such as taking lysol wipes at the end of each day and storing it with the bottom of the ipad facing out of the cart

- Before the start of the day students can pick up their device from near my desk, or if it needs to be more strict two or three assigned students can hand them out when needed

- If students don't listen they take their privilege of using tech taken away and will have to find another method to do the assigned task.

Going to and Making Effective Use of a Computer Lab

- Having each student designated to a certain station to make going in more efficient

- Students need to have logged in during a certain timeframe, and students who are finished before others can either help those around them (for a sense of community obligation) or to assign responsibility I can choose two students to help around the class

- Again, having a monitor for students who are off-task

- Ensuring that computers are in good shape before having the class in to avoid malfunctions

- Having a set plan of what websites or apps we are going to use to avoid time wasted such as having instructions on the board written down on what to do or what to login to so that we can start ASAP

Conventions for Use/Non-Use of Student-Owned Devices in your Classroom

- During break time they can be used

- Not out while I'm talking

- Can be used to google things with permission, but there is no need for personal devices to be out since we will have other forms of tech to use

Integrating technology is important to me because we are advancing in a technology-oriented world, and I think students need to learn how to use it properly to prepare them for the future. By implementing strict rules, technology can be used effectively to allow students to grow and create amazing things.

Students can use technology in a variety of ways, I use it mainly to study. I would love to learn more about how I can integrate technology into my studies.
