Young Imagineers
Below are a series of photos taken from several classes showcasing the students during creation and rehearsal time. My classes are structured where the students come in and lead their own warm-up from the activities I introduce them to in class. Students then work together to create a short play, where each class focuses on an aspect of drama such as characterization or voice and speech.
As the semester progresses, the students move from guided creation with specific prompts to student-led creation. Now that we are reaching the end of the semester, the students have been creating short plays with the use of props, solidifying their improvisation and drama skills.
These last three photos are of the last few classes and the final performance my students put on. This final performance was a showcase of the progress my students made with their improvisation and collaboration skills worked on throughout the semester. Inspired by the fairytale The Three Little Pigs, eight of my students put on a collective creation called The Land of Many Mysteries. Two of my students who are sisters brought in their own supply of costumes and face makeup and their mother also lent her curtains and backstage lights for our showcase. I also had props and costumes pulled from New West Theatre's supply to add to the students' personification of their character. Some students were the "villain dragons" and others were "mythical creature heroes," whereas I played "Starlight the Conductor." The last photo demonstrates one of my younger students' creative expression on what she thought Starlight looks like in The Land of Many Mysteries.
